We've changed up the format just a touch this week, so please bear with us as we continue to tweak and improve formatting! We are joined once again by Deborah Taylor, a Lifetime Achievement Award recipient from the American Library Association as we digest the graphic memoir of actor and activist George Takei's They Called Us Enemy. We can't help but make comparisons to our previous Maus and March episodes as we read through Takei's account of living in Japanese internment camps in the 1940s. Please join us as we experience this journey through the eyes of a child.

The serialized version of Akira ran from 1982 - 1990, and we were so excited to dive into the first collected volume of this renowned manga by Katsuhiro Otomo. As we are dropped into Neo-Tokyo after a decimating explosion leveled the old city, we meet a wild cast of characters and set off on a cyberpunk thriller! This month, we are joined by writer Mellow Brown, who is currently writing another cyberpunk series in Blade Runner: Origins from Titan Comics. Join us as we discuss the incredibly detailed line art, humor, influence, and humanity of Akira.
